Sir: I would like to get ahold of all of the names and salaries of the Washington State school district employees.
I have a website that lists the names and salaries of all Washington State employees http://lbloom.net/index01.html and I would like to add the names and salaries of Washington State local government employees including school district employees salaries. I do not want addresses, social security numbers, ect..., just the names and salaries of the school district employees. Hopefully the names and salaries can also include the job titles and departments they work for.
I've uploaded the Washington State Office of Public Instruction employees and salaries to: http://lbloom.net/spi01.html
I have been writing to the individual school districts, and they have been sending me the names and salaries of people in their districts. I have been informed by the Riverview School District that the OSPI maintains a database with all the information (names and salaries) of every school district in the state.
If you do have such a database, who do I contact to get ahold of it? Of what form would it be in? CD-ROM pdf format? How much would it cost?
If another office maintains these public records, could you forward this request to them, or let me know their name and e-mail so I can e-mail them this request.
thank you for your assistance
Louis Bloom

Mr. Bloom, the information you requested for school employees is available and can be provided to you in an electronic format.
If you wish to have this information, please submit a written public disclosure request outlining specifically what information you wish to have. The request must be either delivered by hand or federal mail.
Upon receipt of your request, OSPI will respond with either the information requested or a timeline for completion of your request within five business days.
If you have any questions, please let me know.

Mr. Bloom,
I just received a message from our systems administrator that the file you requested is too large for delivery to your email system. Please let me know if there is another address to which this file could be sent. Or if you wish to have it printed? If so, the document is approximately 2, 020 pages long which would be a cost of $202.00 not including postage.
Please let me know what you wish to do.

In response to your public disclosure request for the names and salaries of Washington State School District employees, I have attached an Excel workbook. This is a fairly large file (13 MB). The workbook has two spreadsheets, one for certificated employees and the second for classified employees.
There is no charge for an e-mail delivery of this information.

Subject: electronic documents
Lynn: I would rather have the documents in electronic format. Is there a way to break the data into smaller files to e-mail to me? Or can the data be tranfered to floppy discs or cd-rom and mailed to me? If none of that or any other electronic idea works out, then printing it out and mailing it and my paying $200+ for everything would be OK.
Thanks Louis Bloom

Mr. Bloom,
Considering the size of the file, I am concerned that even sending the individual worksheets (one for classified and one for certificated) separately would be too much for your email system. I will get the workbook copied to a disk and mail it to you. I am hopeful that I can get this in the mail for you on Tuesday, July 9. If there will be a delay, I will let you know.

I received on July 9, 2002, a cd-rom disc from the Wash St Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction school with the database information of all the employees of the Washington State school districts.

Here's the freedom of information request letter I sent to the Riverview School District (Carnation).
Sue Tucker of Carnation suggested that I contact the OSPI to get a complete
Washington State School District employees and salaries list from the OSPI.

Here's the response letter I got from the Riverview School District (Carnation)

Below is the e-mail I sent to Sue Tucker thanking her for the information about the OSPI school district employees database.

Subject: thanks for OSPI information
Sue Tucker: Thank you for the OSPI information about the potential OSPI database. I've contacted OSPI and they will send me the information they have after I submit a written public disclosure request to them. I hope they also have the names and salaries of all the district employees, (bus drivers, secretaries, ect...). Consider my records request to Riverview cancelled. I'm always surprised how some things can be done much easier, if I/we only know the different way to do things. Below is the e-mail I sent to and the response I got from the OSPI. Thanks again.
