The Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority is a non-profit organization
chartered by the city of Seattle in 1973 to administer the City’s historic public market center. A
12-member volunteer Council governs the Authority. The Council consists of four mayoral
appointees, four members elected by the Market’s vendors and tenants and four members
appointed by the City Council. The Authority has annual operating expenses of nearly $9.3
million and approximately 100 full-time and 25 part-time employees. The Authority is the landlord
for approximately 225 commercial tenants, 300 residential units and over 265 day-stall vendors at
Pike Place Market. It also operates a 535-stall parking garage and manages four surface lots
with 250 parking spaces.
